Lotto Texas History and Big Winners

Lotto Texas made its debut as the first in-house drawing game offered in the state, with ticket sales starting on November 7, 1992. The first drawing took place just a week later on November 14, and it didn't take long for the first jackpot to be won on November 28. In just one year, the Texas Lottery saw incredible success, selling over $1 billion in tickets.

Initially, Lotto Texas required players to select their own numbers, and drawings were only held on Saturdays. The game did not offer a cash option and was an annuity-only game, but this changed on its first anniversary. On May 29, 1993, the "Quick Pick" option was introduced, giving players the ability to have their numbers randomly selected. Later on, the game added the "Cash Value Option" and increased the number of drawings to twice a week, including Wednesdays.
